Before You Lighten, Color, or Perm Extensions — READ THIS

We get it — you’re a creative. You’ve got a vision. You want to push the boundaries with your installs, and we love that for you.

But before you dive headfirst into a new formula or toss your favorite lightener on a fresh batch of wefts…

Please. For the love of good hair. Do. Not. Go. Balls. To. The. Wall.

Extensions aren’t invincible — even the high-quality kind.

And yes, Mourning Hair prides itself on top-tier, low-processed wefts designed to take on custom color. But even the best hair needs a little prep before you pull out the bleach or perm rods.

Here’s Your New Golden Rule:

If you wouldn’t skip a test strand on a client, don’t skip it on your extensions.

💇♀️ Step 1: Snip about 1 inch off the end of the weft
🧪 Step 2: Mix your lightener, color, or perm solution
🔍 Step 3: Apply to the test strand and watch what happens

This little step could save you from frying an entire row of wefts. You’ll get a feel for:

  • How the hair lifts or tones

  • How it reacts to your specific developer or timing

  • The texture and porosity after chemical exposure

Even top-quality hair can respond differently depending on your:

  • Lightener strength

  • Toner ingredients

  • Water quality

  • And yes, maybe even Mercury in retrograde

The Point Is: Extensions Deserve the Same Respect as Clients

They’re an investment — both for you and your client. So before you gamble with a $200+ row of hair, take the time to test.

It's not just about avoiding damage. It's about confidence in your results.
